Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman and his wife, New Yorker art editor Francoise Mouly, have purchased a one-bedroom apartment in a pre-war Loft Building On Greene Street in Soho, according to public records filed today with the city.
The couple, who shares a love of high-quality comic books, bought the one-bedroom spread at 93 Greene Street for $1.68 million in December, records show.
The unit was listed by Suzanne Stern of Flat Iron Real Estate. It had been on the market since September 2012. The buyers were represented by Myrel Glick of Douglas Elliman.
Spiegelman and Mouly appear to have purchased the property for their children, the writer Nadja Spiegelman and Dashiell Spiegelman, whose names the title for the unit was transferred to after the closing. The couple already owns a loft at Nearby 27 Greene Street, records show.
Niether Spiegelman nor Stern were immediately available for comment. The seller of the property was Paul Weiss of Aventura, Fla.
The apartment, which is located between Prince and Spring streets, features a living and dining area, a master bedroom and bathroom, hardwood floors and a virtual doorman, according to the listing.
Spiegelman is best known for “Maus,” a Holocaust-themed comic book published in 1991 depicting his upbringing as the child of Holocaust survivors.
Mouly has been art editor at the New Yorker since 1993.
