Although oceanfront properties in the Hamptons usually command top dollar, only four of the area’s ten priciest home sales in 2012 were located on the water, according to local brokerage Town & Country Real Estate. Typically, about 80 percent of top sales are for homes bordering the ocean, ponds and bays of the East End.

The most expensive deal was the $28.5 million sale of 322 Meadow Lane in Southampton. The 9,000-square-foot home belonged to finance mogul Marc Rowan, who bought the property for $16.3 million in 2005. As The Real Deal reported, the sale closed last February.

The next priciest sale was at 174 Further Lane in East Hampton, which traded for $28 million. The seven-bedroom mansion first hit the market in 2011 with a $38 million ask. Tim Davis of the Corcoran Group had the listing but remained tight-lipped on the identities of the buyer and seller. The seller acquired the home for $9.85 million in 2004, public records show.

Coming in third was the $27.5 million sale of 43 Surfside Drive in Bridgehampton. An anonymous LLC bought the home, which was quietly listed and sold in a matter of three weeks. The property belonged to Irving Shafran, a divorce lawyer; his book editor wife, Judith Shafran; and their daughter, restaurateur Pamela Schein.

The next most expensive sale in 2012 was the $25.75 million purchase of 30 Lee Avenue in East Hampton. The fifth priciest deal was Salvatore Ranieri’s sale of 58 Highway Behind The Pond Lane in East Hampton for $25 million.

The remaining top sales include the $24.65 million sale of 20 Drew Lane in East Hampton, the $24 million sale of 171 Great Plains Road in Southampton, two $20 million East Hampton sales of 6 Gracie Lane and 54 Highway Behind The Pond Lane and the sale of 8 Five Rod Highway in Wainscott for $18.59 million. —Zachary Kussin
