Work resumes at 432 Park Avenue following accident

But crane use limited by partial stop-work order

Work has resumed at 432 Park Avenue, the site of Harry Macklowe and CIM Group’s planned condominium tower, despite a partial stop work order that remains in effect following Friday’s construction accident, the Department of Buildings confirmed today.

DOB issued the order for “failure to safeguard/unsafe rigging,” records show, and the developers are barred from operating a crane at the south side of the site, between East 56th and East 57th streets, a department spokesperson said.

The crane can be put into use again once the contractor, Lend Lease, can show it has instituted proper safety measures.

But on the whole, work continued, as was apparent from the developer’s video feed of the site, which is publicly available online at 432ParkAvenue.com. (The developers are not barred from continuing all work, a DOB spokesperson confirmed.)

DOB was unable to provide an estimate as to when the stop work order would be lifted. Macklowe declined to comment; CIM Group representatives did not immediately return calls.

Friday’s accident injured a 30-year-old male construction worker, as The Real Deal reported. The partial stop work order was issued by late Friday evening, as the New York Post’s Steve Cuozzo noted on Twitter.

The tower, which is planned to be the city’s tallest residential building, is rising on the site of the former Drake Hotel.
