Design duo Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark, who are best known for outfitting rock and roll greats such as the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols and the Scissor Sisters in leather jackets and diamond encrusted cuffs, appear to have slightly more classical tastes when it comes to real estate.
The couple, who run Goth-rock design label Chrome Hearts, are the unlikely owners of an elegant 20-foot-wide townhouse on the Upper East Side, which hit the market today asking $14 million. The 5,636-square-foot property, at 159 East 64th Street, previously served as the label’s flagship retail location on the East Coast before the store relocated recently to 870 Madison Avenue and 71st Street.
The property is currently configured as a single-family residence with four bedrooms and four bathrooms and is listed by Liora Yalof and Elizabeth Sahlman of the Corcoran Group. It was not immediately clear if the Starks ever lived at the location. The listing was first spotted by Curbed.
The couple, who is primarily based in Beverly Hills, Calif., appears to have purchased the home for $7.5 million in 2005 under a limited liability company named Rsls Realty Holdings. The William Bottomley-designed building was built in the 1890s and overlooks an interior courtyard.
The property is also available as a rental, asking $60,000 a month, according to StreetEasy.
The brokers did not respond to a request for comment while a representative for Chrome Hearts declined to comment on behalf of the Starks.
