Extell Development is closer to erecting an 88-story tower at 225 West 57th Street after the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved partial demolition of the BF Goodrich building, Crain’s reported.
The panel’s decision allows Extell to perform excavation and foundation work for the development. The building will have 220 apartments, a hotel and a Nordstrom department store at ground level.
The building, a stone’s throw from One57, will stand 1,550 feet. It will be taller than 432 Park Avenue, One57 and 1 World Trade Center without its spire.
Extell executive vice president Tony Mannarino told Crain’s that he expects demotion and excavation work to start after the project gets the city’s blessing, in April or May. The work will last 15 to 18 months.
If plans follow through, the project will be complete in mid-2018, Mannarino told Crain’s. [Crain’s] —Zachary Kussin
