The five-story Fulton Street building that erupted in back-to-back fires last week is being demolished, DNAinfo reported. The Department of Buildings condemned the property at 140 Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan and began dismantling it this past weekend, in a process slated to last several weeks, the website said.
The fire damage affected the third, fourth and fifth floors, and caused a partial roof collapse. Due to the roof damage, the DOB deemed the remaining building at risk of collapse, according to an emergency memo sent to Manhattan Community Board 1.
The 11,248-square-foot building housed an eatery on the ground floor, and a massage parlor, dentist’s office and an unclear numner of residential units upstairs. The building sustained two blazes in a two-day period, as previously reported.
The electrical fires have been deemed accidental, a Fire Department of New York spokesperson told DNAinfo.
