From the March issue: This month, The Real Deal spoke with residential and commercial brokers about the transformation taking place in Gowanus, a largely industrial neighborhood in Brooklyn. Among the many changes coming to the neighborhood is a new Whole Foods under construction at Third Avenue and Third Street.
“I am a believer that Whole Foods will dramatically affect the market,” said Ken Freeman, a senior vice president at Massey Knakal Realty Services. “I have watched for eight years as Forest City Ratner planned, then eventually built the Barclays Center. Nothing happened to the surrounding real estate until the moment the arena opened, and then everything became sizzling hot. I think it’s the same with Whole Foods. I think the moment it opens, everyone will want a piece of the surrounding real estate.”
