Though the delayed New York City bike share initiative will have multiple station locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the headquarters of Citi Bike will be located in Sunset Park, where the program has leased 39,200 square feet at 53rd Street and Third Avenue, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The exact address was not clear.
CBRE first vice president Alec Monaghan represented the tenant — Alta Bicycle Share, the private vendor that will operate the bike share — in the deal. Asking rents inside the building are $20 per square foot.
“We were thinking Soho,” Monaghan told the Journal, adding that Brooklyn became more attractive because of the lower prices and the need for industrial space. “You’re limited in Manhattan in terms of that product type.”
The 16,200-square-foot ground floor will be a space for fixing bikes. There will be a call center on the second floor, and the lower level will house parking for vans used to shepherd bikes to different stations. [WSJ] —Zachary Kussin
