Welocalize, a company that translates products into different languages, has inked an 8,500-square-foot, long-term lease at 15 West 37th Street in the Garment District, the New York Observer reported. The deal encompasses the entire eighth floor of the 16-story building.
Kamber Management owns the nearly 138,000-square-foot property, which is located between Fifth and Sixth avenues.
“What has happened is that the garment industry, while still vibrant, doesn’t need as much space,” Kamber’s Steve Levy, who arranged the deal in-house, told the Observer. “Like many others, we have benefited from the explosion of the creative industries in the neighborhood.”
Kamber has made upgrades to the building with new boilers, new air conditioning systems on certain floors and computerized building management systems, which are not as common among older properties. The building was built in the early 1920s.
The landlord is currently building out the office space for Welocalize, which was represented by Joel Weinberg and Nick Bates of DTZ. [NYO] —Zachary Kussin
