A New Affordable Housing Building Developed By Broadway Housing Communities will open in Sugar Hill early next year, Crain’s reported.

Groundbreaking for the 13-story, 124-unit building on St. Nicholas Avenue and West 155th Street took place earlier this month. Construction is expected to be completed late this year.

Once open, about 20 percent of the units in the building will be reserved for the formerly homeless. The remainder will go to low-income tenants.

In addition to the housing units, the $89 million property will also have an early childhood education center, a children’s museum of art and storytelling, retail space and underground parking.

The project, which is being financed via a blend of city, state and federal funding, as well as through private investment, has apparently seen a considerable amount of support from the community.

“It’s helpful to be in a community that your work is well known in when looking for a large real estate opportunity,” said BHC founder and executive director Ellen Baxter.

According to BHC’s website, the firm is not yet accepting applications for apartments at Sugar Hill, but is encouraging prospective tenants to keep checking the site for more information. [Crain’s] – James Comtois
