The sleek Hotel Le Bleu in Gowanus will soon have a sister a short walk away. Globiwest Hospitality filed plans to build a six-story, 58-room hotel at 399 Third Avenue, near Sixth Street, DNAinfo reported. The project, still waiting the city’s OK, would rise on an empty lot next door to the U-Haul building, which itself is expanding.
Developer Domenick Tonacchio tried to put up a glass tower office building on the site in 2007, but ended up selling it for $1.95 million in 2012, according to city records cited by DNAinfo.
Hotel Le Bleu, 370 Fourth Avenue, became the first boutique hotel in Gowanus when it opened in 2007, Globiwest principal Mukesh Patel told the publication. The hotel is on the market for $12 million; it draws guests trailing largely from Europe and Canada. [DNAinfo] – Mark Maurer
