The New York City Housing Authority is bringing on an ex-board member to take over a mixed bag of duties, including community relations, Crain’s reported.

Margarita Lopez starts Aug. 15 as executive vice president for community programs and development; she will report to General Manager Cecil House. Lopez served on NYCHA’s board until last month when a new state law abolished it.

In her new role, Lopez will oversee community outreach and development coordination — her focus in her seven years on the board.

As a board member, Lopez also worked as the housing authority’s environmental coordinator, leading projects on sustainability. In 2011, she helped create Plan NYCHA, a road map to streamline operations and increase cash flow to make up revenue lost through federal funding cuts.

Before her time on the board, Lopez represented the Lower East Side on the City Council for eight years. [Crain’s]Julie Strickland
