The Brooklyn Navy Yard board has named David Ehrenberg to serve as executive director of the nonprofit in charge of managing the 300-acre waterfront industrial park, according to Crain’s.

Ehrenberg, an executive vice president of the city’s Economic Development Corporation in charge of real estate, will replace Andrew Kimball, who stepped down from the position in June.

During his tenure as co-head of the EDC’s real estate department, Ehrenberg oversaw the bidding process for what became Cornell’s tech campus planned for Roosevelt Island. He also oversaw the development for a new Memorial Sloan Kettering/CUNY medical facility on the Upper East Side. In addition, he served as the city’s point person on the 22-acre Atlantic Yards development.

“Building on his many accomplishments at EDC, David will no doubt continue to lead the Navy Yard along this impressive path,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg, in a statement.

Ehrenberg said that he has no bold plans at the moment for the Navy Yards, though that could change once he gets settled into the position.

“What they’ve done really well is keeping the commitment to the manufacturing and industrial base while being responsive to the new realities of the technology and green industries that are becoming the heart of the Brooklyn economy,” Ehrenberg said. [Crain’s] – James Comtois
