Rentals in demand: Upper West Side, one-bedrooms

While last week the Upper East Side proved the most in-demand Manhattan neighborhood for prospective tenants, popularity has moved to the other side of the borough, according to data from apartment listings website Zumper.

The Upper West Side grabbed the top spot. Rounding out the top neighborhoods were, in order, the East Village, Chelsea, the West Village and the Upper East Side, the data show.

One-bedroom apartments held the majority of renter inquiries to brokers at 45 percent. The median rent inquiry was $2,395 a month. Two-bedrooms saw 19 percent of the leads, and a median inquiry of $2,250 per month, the Zumper figures show.

“We saw a dramatic surge in demand for studio and one-bedroom rentals, double that of the previous week,” Zumper COO Taylor-Glass Moore told The Real Deal. “Interestingly, the median price of inquiries on two-bedrooms was lower than one-bedrooms, suggesting that renters searching hard enough are finding some good deals out there.”
