FiDi community leaders will get a heads up from the city next week on where it is in the process of getting a feasibility study done on the Seaport City project.
Officials with the Economic Development Corp. are meeting with the community board Monday to review the request for proposals from prospective consultants on the study. The public session is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. at University Settlement, at 184 Eldridge Street.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed the new neighborhood, modeled after Battery Park City, as part of a sweeping plan to protect New York City from furious storms similar to last year’s Hurricane Sandy. The project has been roundly criticized by community activists and environmentalists, who contend that the city has no use for another waterfront district and that the new development could mar the character of the historic Seaport neighborhood along the East River, as previously reported.
