Stable-turned-townhouse asks $13.5M

An 1830 townhouse at 52 West 10th Street is asking $13.45 million. The historic home, built for carpenter Abner Tucker and later converted into a stable during the late 19th century, remained as the latter until the 1920s.

Around that time, as artists came to the Village in droves, painter and sculptor Frederick MacMonnies purchased the stable for $25,000 and transitioned it into a ground-floor studio with an apartment above.

MacMonnies hung onto the space until he died in 1937, and at that point the house became a modern dance studio. In 1954 it was reincarnated yet again as a one-car garage.
