Soho residential building is unstable, tenants claim
A six-story apartment complex in Soho is moving, but it didn’t give the customary 30-day notice. Fire officials evacuated the building at 188 Sixth Avenue yesterday after tenants claimed they felt it move sometime before 3:30 p.m.
The 33,930-square-foot building has a history of alleged vibrations. Over the past five years, tenants have filed numerous complaints with the Department of Buildings over construction work at an adjacent condominium development causing it to shake.
Officials inspected 188 Sixth Avenue in May and found no evidence of such motion, the New York Daily News reported, citing DOB records. [NYDN] — Mark Maurer
