A pair of Upper East Side fixer-upper townhouses, once home to screen star-turned-princess Grace Kelly and singer Harry Belafonte, could be yours for only $48 million.
The duo, located at 51-53 East 73rd Street, may well cost the buyer, hopefully flush with capital, an additional $10 million for the necessary overhaul.
Steve Madden is reported to be one of the buyers touring the properties. Cabbie-turned-billionaire Tamir Sapir is also rumored to have shown interest, as has the CEO of People’s Insurance Company of China and a handful of Russian oligarchs.
“It would make a perfect single-family home for the right buyer,” Sergei Millian, the Nest Seekers International broker with the listing, told the New York Daily News.
The five-story, hundred-year-old pair of buildings, spread across 12,000 square feet between Madison and Park avenues, are currently home to doctor’s offices and apartments. But the seller, Anthony Ender according to city records, is hoping a buyer will swoop in and turn the properties into the decked-out mansion of their dreams.
“It’s hard to find a blank canvas this big in Manhattan,” Millian told the Daily News. [NYDN] — Julie Strickland
