A Manhattan-based art storage company has inked a 35,000-square-foot lease in Williamsburg for what will become their second New York City outpost, The Real Deal has learned.
Cirkers, a company that dates to the 1860s and claims to house some of the “world’s most important art,” signed for the two-story space at 106 Bayard Street, on October 1. Fred Rufrano of Kalmon Dolgin represented both the tenant and landlord, Chana LLC.
The location, between Manhattan Avenue and Leonard Street, is close to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and the subway, which drew Cirkers to the location, Rufrano said.
“That and Williamsburg has become a very artsy area,” he said.
Asking rent was $15 per square foot, according to Rufrano.
Cirkers’ other location is at 444 West 55th Street, between Ninth and 10th avenues.
The Bayard Street building previously housed Winchester Art Services, a company that also stores art and valuables. Winchester is vacating the premises because a Bronx-based firm called Transcon International recently bought the business and will consolidate Winchester into their Bronx space, a Winchester employee and Rufrano said.
