Sunset Park’s Industry City, having shored up leases with Williams Sonoma and high-end guitar maker Fodera, has now inked a deal for a $50 million Brooklyn Nets training facility.
The sporty spot atop an eighth-floor building in The Complex Off 39th Street, slated for completion in the summer of 2015, will serve as both team offices and a facility for team training, sports blog SB Nation reported. The Nets will lift the roof by nearly 20 feet to accommodate the basketball team’s needs.
Irina Pavlova of ONEXIM Sports and Entertainment and David Carlock, a sports facility consultant and board member of the Barclays Center, where the Nets play, worked on behalf of the team to secure the lease.
The new team on the Brooklyn scene reportedly checked out over 30 prospective sites in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Jersey City before settling on the Sunset Park site co-owned by Jamestown Properties, Angelo Gordon and Belvedere Capital. Once the Nets and Jamestown secure municipal approval on the plan, construction is estimated to take one year. [SB Nation] — Julie Strickland
