A real estate political action committee is trying to reignite interest in a large development project around a defunct Adirondacks ski resort. The New York State Association of Realtors fund recently spent $40,000 to promote the project, which seeks to build a 6,400-acre resort in Tupper Lake called the Adirondack Club and Resort that would surround the former Big Tupper ski area.

The state has already approved the residential construction permits needed for the site, Capital New York reported, but the project has stalled for the past two years due to lawsuits from environmental groups. Advocates for the development claim that it would rake in $20 million annually from tourists and create 500 permanent jobs.

“The stakes are getting higher because of the time elapsed,” project spokesperson Sean Casey told Capital New York. The dollars spent on public relations and advertising, he said, would remind “everyone that this is happening.” Casey added that about $133,000 would be spent in total by the end of this year on marketing the project.
