Mayor Bill de Blasio originally said that he planned to move into Gracie Mansion post-election. But last week his plans were thrown into question after saying that he may not move in after all — out of consideration for his son’s high school commute. If de Blasio didn’t live in the historic home, he would be the third consecutive mayor to leave the house empty.
So with such a prime piece of New York City real estate sitting vacant, the New York Post asked what price the luxurious home would fetch on the market.
“So unique,” Sofia Song, head of research at StreetEasy, told the Post. “It’s a five bedroom, waterfront property. And it’s single-family. Detached. Mayor Bloomberg out of his own pocket, put in $7 million worth of renovations.”
Song estimates the property is worth between $100 million and $150 million.
But Barbara Corcoran thinks that the 11-acre property could go for as much as $200 million. “My opinion, it would sell for $200 million,” Corcoran said, noting that the land alone is worth $100 million. But, she added, “it only has five bedrooms. And anyone who has that kind of money wants six bedrooms, maybe eight.” [NYP] –Christopher Cameron
