Veteran first-baseman Jason Giambi has sold his Upper East Side condominium for $6.8 million, more than double the amount he bought it for in 2002.
The 2,874-square-foot, eight-room unit is on the 24th floor of Davis Development Holdings’ Empire Condominium at 188 East 78th Street, between Lexington and Third avenues. In 2002, Giambi, then a member of the New York Yankees, paid $3.3 million for the apartment, a year before he admitted to using steroids.
He later picked up two wine cellar units in the 31-story building for $1,250 per square foot, or $5,000 each, as The Real Deal reported in 2008.
New York living is likely not in Giambi’s near future, as he recently re-signed with the Cleveland Indians. [Curbed] — Mark Maurer
