Community group Preserve Park Slope has turned to petitioning in its ongoing protest of New York Methodist Hospital’s expansion plans.
The project involves tearing down 16 buildings on 6th Street, between Seventh and Eighth avenues, to make way for a nine-story outpatient care facility. The group is concerned about massive construction, an influx of additional hospital employees, the potential for traffic and ambulance noises.
Hospital staff is expected to deliver a presentation on its application for land use variances at a public meeting Thursday at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the John Jay Educational Campus at 237 Seventh Avenue.
The proposed building will include a new surgery center, endoscopy suite and cancer center, as well as a conference center. [Brooklyn Eagle] — Mark Maurer
