An acting state judge has ruled in favor of a $15 million cash sale of a Jesuit retreat in Staten Island to the Savo Brothers development firm.
Last month, the judge, Charles Troia, temporarily blocked the sale of Mount Manresa. Politicians and residents have led a bipartisan protest of the deal, which is slated to replace the 102-year-old property with condominium townhouses.
Plaintiffs in the lawsuit to halt the sale included Barbara Sanchez, secretary of local group the Committee to Save Mount Manresa, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis and State Senator Diane Savino.
“We are currently reviewing the judge’s decision and considering our options,” Malliotakis and Savino said in a statement provided to the Staten Island Advance. “We remain hopeful that the parties involved will realize the importance of this site to the community and the impact over development will have on the surrounding neighborhoods.” [Staten Island Advance] — Mark Maurer
