The Donald has accused New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman of violating ethics and conflict-of-interest laws for allegedly cozying up to his daughter Ivanka and her husband real estate mogul Jared Kushner while pursuing claims against Trump University.
Schneiderman solicited re-election campaign donations while reassuring the younger Trump that the investigation into her father’s Trump University was going nowhere, the complaint, filed Monday in Albany, alleged.
According to the complaint, Schneiderman pushed Kushner and Ivanka Trump to host a fundraising breakfast for him at restaurant Jean Georges and to meet for various other posh dining and drinking outings, all the while saying the case against Donald Trump was “very weak.”
“He was barraging Trump executives, especially Ivanka, with invitations to meet up and socialize while he was investigating them,” Stephen Meister, Trump’s attorney, told the New York Post.
Matt Mittenthal, the AG’s spokesperson, dismissed the allegations, saying Donald Trump “will say and do anything to avoid talking about the facts in the case.”
The complaint comes a day after Trump filed papers in New York State Supreme Court mocking Schneiderman for bringing 97 alleged victims of his Trump University out of the woodwork with promises of cash payouts.
“His wild accusations, outlandish conspiracy theories and outright distortions will not distract Attorney General Schneiderman from pursuing justice for the students victimized by Mr. Trump and his scam university,” Mittenthal said. [NYP] — Julie Strickland
