L+M Development has been named “private developer of the year” by the New York Housing Conference, and for good reason.
Not only has the developer won the contract on the massive Seward Park urban-renewal project near the Williamsburg Bridge but it has also involved itself in a truly unique array of projects across the city.
The firm has recently done everything from tapping a Swedish firm to design housing on part of an 80-acre tract in the Rockaways, to cutting the ribbon on a South Williamsburg grocery store, to opening an affordable-housing property in a former Navy prison in Fort Greene. And more is on the way, according to Crain’s.
“I can only imagine that a company that has had this much success, is employee-owned and has great leadership is going to continue to succeed [under the de Blasio administration],” Judith Calogero, CEO of the New York Housing Conference, said at the award ceremony last week.
L+M plans to kick off 2014 with a project that founder and CEO Ron Moelis calls nothing less than “the culmination of what I’ve been doing for 30 years.” The project, known as Essex Crossing, will develop 1.7 million square feet of the Seward Park Urban Renewal Area.
“We can do really cool, interesting things in the community, hopefully make money doing it, and build something that is going to be a real legacy project,” Moelis said. [Crain’s] –Christopher Cameron
