An 11-story apartment-hotel has been proposed at 405 Eighth Avenue in Chelsea – the current site of the D’aiuto’s cheesecake shop.
The new 20,227-square-foot building, located between West 30th and 31st streets, will have eight units, according to the plan exam application filed December 12th. The first floor is designated as retail space, while six hotel rooms will be on the second through eighth floors, according to Buzzbuzzhome. The project will be capped with two apartments on floors eight to 11.
The developer, Utica Avenue Hotel – an affiliate of the Howard Johnson hotel chain — purchased the property in February 2012 for $5.75 million, according to public records, and Raymond Chan Architect is the architect of record.
The site’s existing structure is a three-story mixed building that’s home to the Italian bakery D’aiuto’s, which was established in 1924. [Buzzbuzzhome] –Christopher Cameron
