A loft in Williamsburg’s Gretsch Building is on the market for $6.5 million, setting a new high for the priciest pad on the market in the hip ‘hood.
The six-bedroom condominium at 60 Broadway is the most expensive unit on offer in the building and miles above the average purchase price in the neighborhood, breaking down to $1,800 per square foot. “I guess for the right family moving from Manhattan, it might seem like a bargain,” said Jonathan Miller, president and CEO of appraisal firm Miller Samuel. “But compared to everything else in the neighborhood, it’s a lot to ask.”
Douglas Elliman broker Arina Yakobi, who has the listing, described the property as “an unparalleled unit in the hottest neighborhood on the planet” to the New York Daily News.
Located on the top floor of the building, the expansive apartment was created when current owner Mark Altman combined two neighboring units, purchased for $2.9 million total in 2007 and 2010, according to city records cited by the Daily News. Altman then put an additional $1 million into combining them, Yakobi told the paper.
Each bedroom boasts a walk-in closet, and the six bathrooms are graced with individual floor-to-ceiling mosaics and marble. The building was once a guitar factory, and the home maintains old columns from those manufacturing days.
The buyer will likely find him or herself with a few high-profile neighbors. Rapper Busta Rhymes formerly owned in the building, and “Girls” creator and star Lena Dunham reportedly checked out the penthouse recently. [NYDN] — Julie Strickland
