A suspect in the murder of Kensington landlord Mahuddin Mahmud was arrested Tuesday night as he attempted to board a flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Mohammed Siddiquee, a 27-year-old tenant of Mahmud’s, reportedly told police that he killed the property owner because he “humiliated and teased” him about his lack of money. Police arrested the accused at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night, as he planned to travel to his native Bangladesh via Kuwait.

Police were able to track down the suspect, who allegedly committed the grisly murder in a basement unit he rented from Mahmud at 546 Mcdonald Avenue, after he used his own credit card to purchase a plane ticket, sources told the New York Daily News.

Siddiquee has been charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, the Daily News reported. [NYDN]Julie Strickland
