A few months after receiving Landmarks Preservation Commission approvals, developer Friedland Properties is moving forward with its plan for two adjacent mixed-use buildings on a parking lot in the Flatiron District.
The block-through site at 7 West 21st Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, would have 239 apartments – either rentals or condominiums – as well as 8,200 square feet of commercial space. One of the buildings will be 14 stories and rise 144 feet high, according to a plan exam application filed yesterday.
Landmarks signed off on architect Morris Adjmi’s design after adding two-story bay windows – as well as more metal — at the largely limestone base of the 22nd Street building, BuzzBuzzHome reported.
Friedland Properties has been facing backlash from residents of a nearby Lenox Hill co-op at 35 East 68th Street, as previously reported. Friedland’s proposed expansion of 817-819 Madison Avenue, which should get a two-story addition, has caused construction hassles for residents. [BuzzBuzzHome] — Mark Maurer
