Former New York Police Department Commissioner Raymond Kelly is breaking into real estate with a new role as president of risk management services at commercial brokerage Cushman & Wakefield.

Kelly has served as special adviser to Governor Andrew Cuomo since he stepped down as commissioner at the end of last year. His job will involve heading up crisis management and working with clients to remove physical or cyber security issues.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity for me,” Kelly told the Wall Street Journal. “I think it gives me the ability to take some of the things I’ve learned and help start a new practice.”

His NYPD successor, Bill Bratton, has already opened talks with Port Authority officials over the direction of security plans for the World Trade Center redevelopment zone. The Port Authority attempted to set up conversations with Kelly when he was commissioner about reducing the police footprint in the area. The NYPD, however, was said to have turned a deaf ear, as previously reported. [WSJ] and [NYDN]Mark Maurer
