Chelsea, the West Village and the Upper East Side were the most popular neighborhoods last week when it came to prospective renters’ search for studio apartments, according to Zumper, an apartment listings website. The West Village was the most in-demand Manhattan neighborhood overall, followed by Chelsea, the Upper West Side, the Upper East Side and Hell’s Kitchen. The prior week, the East Village took the prize.
A surge of one-bedroom searches happened in Harlem, even though the neighborhood didn’t crack the top five. Studios held the majority of the market share, with 38 percent of the leads. The median rent inquiry was $2,100 per month.
One-bedrooms had 33 percent of the market and $2,200 per month. Two-bedrooms had 24 percent of the leads and $3,195 per month. Three-bedrooms, picking up the slack, comprised 5 percent and $3,350 per month.
Methodology: Zumper determined the rankings by using a representative sample of emails and phone calls from renters interested in its Manhattan listings available for the week ending March 9. — Mark Maurer
