New York Foundling lists Village building for $48M
Likely buyer for 27 Christopher: Foreign royalty or American billionaire
Nonprofit social-services agency New York Foundling is asking $47.5 million for a four-story Greenwich Village building it bought for a mere $3 million about 12 years ago.
The 14,540-square-foot property at 27 Christopher Street, near Waverly Place, has served as a nursing school and parochial school in the past. The space currently houses the Vincent J. Fontana Center for Child Protection, an organization that offers training to child-care workers.
New York Foundling said it would use proceeds from the sale toward new children’s programs.
The deed contains a restriction that the building be used for health care functions through January 2016, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Super-broker Dolly Lenz has the listing. She told the Journal she projects the buyer will either be foreign royalty or an American billionaire who would convert the site into a mansion.
The site has ceilings as high as 15 feet, a 3,980-square-foot outdoor area and a 4,283-square-foot basement, the Journal said. [WSJ] — Mark Maurer
