Developers have received approval from the Newark Zoning Board to build the first hotel in 40 years in the Ironbound section of Newark.
Construction is expected to start in July on the 94-room boutique Carvi Hotel branded project at Lafayette and Monroe streets. The project’s architects, Greg Comito of Comito Associates, announced that the six-story hotel will feature conference rooms, a café, lounge areas, a rear garden terrace and a business center, according to NJ.com
“The demand for hotel space in the Ironbound is obvious,” Comito said in a statement. “The hotel will be in easy walking distance to renowned restaurants and shops, with perfect access to the airports and Manhattan within what we see as European neighborhood character.” [NJ.com] — Christopher Cameron
