Mayor Bill de Blasio is set to appoint Mitchell Silver, the head of city planning in Raleigh, N.C., as the new parks commissioner of New York City.
Silver previously served as a policy and planning director in the city and was president of the American Planning Association. Former City Planning Commission member Karen Phillips; Harriet Tregoning, the current director of city planning in Washington, D.C.; and Anna Hayes Levin, a member of the City Planning Commission, were also under consideration for the position. Silver was considered for the role of planning commissioner, which went to Carl Weisbrod, Crain’s reported.
