Vornado’s sky-high tower at 220 Central Park South, originally slated to hit a height of 920 feet, will actually reach 1,031 feet tall.
The extra 81 feet will officially give the building “supertall” status, placing it among the Big Apple’s tallest buildings, New York YIMBY reported. The condominium tower slips past One57’s 1,005 feet, but remains behind Macklowe Properties’ 432 Park Avenue, 217 West 75th Street and Property Markets Group and JDS Development’s 111 West 57th Street.
The latest round of permits offers a zoomed-out peek at the project, which has gone through a handful of changes since the first renderings surfaced back in January. A cut out on the building’s east side will broaden the views from Extell’s 217 West 57th Street, already cantilevering to bypass obstruction from 220 Central Park South.
The soaring tower will stand 65 stories, hold 100 units in total and is slated for a 2016 completion, according to YIMBY. [NY YIMBY] — Julie Strickland
