A new business incubator for startup biotech ventures is yet another sign of the change sweeping Harlem.

Harlem Biospace, which launched in November, offers its clients lab space for projects with rents at $995 per desk monthly. The city’s Economic Development Corporation, which financed Harlem Biotech with $626,000, sees the space as an economic investment for the neighborhood. It is one of 16 such business incubators in the city, The New York Times reported.

Situated inside the Sweets Building at 423 West 127th Street, and located within the vicinity of Columbia University and City College, Harlem Biospace hopes to garner the entrepreneurial potential of those academic hubs.

“By giving people the infrastructure and the space to do the work, we can give the start-ups in New York as good a chance as they can have to succeed,” Samuel K. Sia, founder of Harlem Biospace, told the New York Times.
