Red Hook’s Coffrey Park slated for redesign
City to add barbecue pits, water fountains to green space in $2.3 million project
The city is planning to dish out $2.3 million on improvements to a Red Hook park that has seen better days.
The Parks Department has reportedly committed to Redesign Coffey Park On The Verona Street, across from the Red Hook Houses. The revamped green space, which was damaged during Hurricane Sandy along with many other spots in the neighborhood, comes as real estate insiders increasingly point to the area as one of the next neighborhoods in Brooklyn where property values are poised to skyrocket.
The new park will feature reconfigured footpaths in the northern half, new water fountains, a barbecue grilling area with picnic tables and a redesigned central plaza, the New York Daily News reported. Work on the project, slated for completion in early 2015, kicks off this month and is being funded by the city and state. [NYDN] — Angela Hunt
