The New School has leased space in one of its buildings at the edge of the West Village to Planet Fitness.
The New York-based franchise, which decks out its gyms in purple and yellow and dubs them “judgement-free-zones,” will take 16,000 square feet at 22 East 14th Street from the college — 1,000 square feet on the ground-floor and 15,000 square feet below-grade for the facility, the New York Post reported.
Richard Chera and Jordan Barker of Crown Retail Services represented the tenant, while Peter Ripka, Andrew Mandell, Richard Skulnik and Jason Maurer of Ripco Real Estate represented the landlord, according to the paper.
The new location, at the intersection of the Union Square and Flatiron District neighborhoods, will be the eighth Planet Fitness to open in Manhattan, according to the gym’s website. PFNY also recently set up shop in Washington Heights, Brooklyn and nabbed a new flagship locale at 213 West 34th Street. [NYP, 2nd item] — Angela Hunt
