Kaufman Astoria Studios is gearing up to add a new 18,000-square-foot sound stage to the film spot’s 500,000-square-foot lot.
Dubbed Stage N, the addition would open within the next two years and bring the total number of stages to eight, excluding a new 34,800-square-foot back lot that opened in December.
“Film and television production in New York City has never been stronger,” Hal Rosenbluth, president of Kaufman Astoria, told Real Estate Weekly. “With Stage N, Kaufman Astoria Studios will be able to accommodate even more projects and continue to make New York the film and television capital of the world.”
In addition to the planned stage, the studio is building 33 apartments at A Nearby Property On 35th Street, and a number of commercial tenants are inking leases in the growing area. [REW] — Julie Strickland
