Designers Chad Kellogg and Matt Bowles have a bold new proposal for Queens: a sea urchin-shaped transit hub.
The award-winning Urban Alloy Towers proposal is intended to house the intersection of the LIRR and 7 train and eliminate noise pollution with sound dampening tubes, according to Buzzbuzzhome.
The massive glass and steel structure would also include residential space – luxury housing on the top floors and affordable housing below — and a pedestrian zone.
And while it seems like such an imposing structure has little chance of actually being built, New York City real estate appraiser Jonathan Miller says that building high-density housing near a Queens transit hub may appeal to some forward thinking developers.
