A duplex penthouse at the Brodsky Organization’s 135 East 79th Street has sold for $21.9 million, according to property records filed with the city Friday. The 5,188-square-foot apartment on the 15th floor has five bedrooms and five bathrooms and was asking $23 million. The apartment boasts a private set-back terrace, solid white oak floors and slab stone bathrooms.
The undisclosed buyer purchased the apartment through an LLC managed by attorney Matthew Kamens of law firm Cozen O’Connor.
Brodsky acquired the site, between Lexington and Park avenues, from longtime owners Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work in 2009. Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group kicked off sales at the 32-unit building in February of last year. It is, by far, the developer’s swankiest project in the city. Three penthouses, starting at $18.5 million, remain up for grabs, according to a Corcoran Sunshine representative. A 9,000-square-foot combination apartment at the top of the tower was last listed for $50 million and appears to be in contract, but is yet to close.
