The exercise facility in the former New York City Police Headquarters at 240 Centre Street in Lower Manhattan is now the site of a 6,600-square-foot duplex penthouse co-op soon hitting the market for $31.5 million.
Alvin Einbender, retired Bear Stearns chief operating officer, and his wife Joan listed the unit with Warburg Realty brokers Deborah Lupard and Bonnie Chajet. The four-bedroom apartment features 25-foot-high ceilings and four-and-a-half bathrooms.
Although the building was converted to co-ops in the 1980s, the gym remained untouched until the Einbenders bought the space in the late 1990s, the Wall Street Journal reported. The couple tried selling it in 2008, for $30 million, but to no avail. [WSJ] — Mark Maurer
