A Brooklyn judge halted New York Methodist Hospital’s expansion plans after hospital officials failed to comply with a subpoena issued by an opposing Park Slope group.
Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Wavny Toussaint has ordered hospital representatives to appear in court on June 4 to explain their failure to comply. Toussaint also told hospital officials to halt all development proceedings until after the hearing, the New York Daily News reported.
The subpoena, which was issued by Stuart Klein, an attorney who represents the activist group Preserve Park Slope, demanded the release of information pertaining to the hospital’s expansion plan. However, staff at New York Methodist argued that Klein did not have the authority to issue the subpoena.
Hospital spokeswoman Lyn Hill said: “We are naturally disappointed that a critically needed health resource for Brooklyn has been delayed. However, we are confident that our proposal will ultimately be approved and we look forward to moving forward with the construction of New York Methodist Hospital’s Center for Community Health.” [NYDN] — Sasha von Oldershausen
