New York City is sharing its tiny, confined spaces with San Francisco, giving it its first Japanese-style “capsule” hotel – where rooms average 170 square feet.
NYC developer Synapse Capital is converting the historic Grant office building at 1095 Market Street in San Francisco into 200 hotel rooms in partnership with London Yotel, according to SF Gate.
Yotel, which operates tiny hotel rooms in Times Square, London and Amsterdam, refers to its rooms as cabins – cabins that are 48 percent smaller than the average New York hotel room size.
NYC’s Yotel rooms average about $249 a night, compared with $374 and up for rooms at the downtown Marriott. [SF Gate] – Christopher Cameron
