UPDATED, 1:00 p.m., June 20: A 200,000-square-foot building is slated to rise at 215 Chrystie Street, according to new renderings.
Hotelier Ian Schrager bought the building in late 2012 for $50 million.
The building will be made up of 370 hotel rooms, but 33,386 square feet will be divided over 11 full- and half-floor residences on the higher floors. The new tower at 215 Chrystie will be capped by three levels of mechanicals and will be 314 feet tall.
Residential units are expected to be high end. Floors 19 through 22 will have two residences, each spanning about 2,300 square feet, while floors 23 through 25 will have full-floor penthouses of more than 4,700 square feet.
The new hotel will be named “Public,” which will be part of Schrager’s existing brand.
British designer John Pawson, who is also known for his work on Calvin Klein’s Madison Avenue store, designed the interior of the residences. The exterior was designed by Herzog & de Meuron.
The hotel is expected to be finished by the winter of 2016. [NY Yimby] — Claire Moses
