Brooklyn developers are spending more money to provide higher-grade renovations to brownstones in the borough as sale prices continue to soar.
Stuyvesant Group and other developers increasingly outfit properties with central air, $30,000 appliance packages and a back wall of windows, Brownstoner reported. Adam Cohen of Stuyvesant made high-end custom upgrades to a Fort Greene townhouse such as an iPad that controls radiant heat on all floors and a glass-and-steel back wall.
“We never did the cheap stuff, it was always custom cabinets, better tile and hardwood flooring,” Cohen told Brownstoner. “We used to give a standard package of stainless steel appliances, and maybe now it’s [a more expensive] appliance package. It used to be quartz counters, now it’s Carrara marble.” [Brownstoner] — Mark Maurer
