Demand for hotels in Brooklyn back up to pre-Sandy levels

June of this year saw the first year-over-year increase since April 2013

Brooklyn’s demand for hotel rooms is back on track, continuing along an upward path toward pre-Superstorm Sandy highs.

The number of rooms sold increased year-over-year every month in the second quarter, according to a report from industry benchmarking services firm STR. Before April 2014, the last month in which there was a year-over-year increase was September 2013.

As of June, Brooklyn had 27 hotel projects with 2,416 rooms in the works. Of those projects, seven hotels — with a total of 544 rooms — are in the planning phase. Six hotels — a combined 493 rooms — are in the final phase. Another 14 — with 1,379 rooms — are under construction. In June 2013, the borough had 19 hotels and 2,159 rooms in the pipeline.
