Google purchased the former Port Authority building at 111 Eighth Avenue in 2010, and now it plans on taking up more of the building’s nearly three million square feet of space.

The tech titan could grow into as much as 500,000 additional square feet by the first quarter of 2015, sources told Crain’s. A number of tenants are exiting or being paid by Google to forego lease renewals, clearing way for the company to stretch out, according to the news site.

Amidst healthy growth, Google has been forced to find office space outside its own New York City headquarters. It expanded to 300,000 square feet at neighboring Chelsea Market at 75 Ninth Avenue earlier this year, as The Real Deal reported at the time. [Crain’s]Tom DiChristopher
